Your partnership in student learning is more important than ever. We are writing with important information to support learning over the summer and how to pick up those materials next week. Summer Learning Materials We are excited to provide your elementary student with a package of books, reading response journal, sight word flashcards for grades K-3 and a Scholastic reading and math workbook over the summer. Students should take at least 30 minutes every day to read. Our Summer Reading Challenge is back, so make sure to log that time here: https://district.ops.org/ABOUTOPS/SummerReading.aspx#103181328-current-progress. To keep students engaged through the summer, learning resources will continue to be available online. You can find that information here: https://libguides.ops.org/athome. Other Materials: We have some promotional items for our fifth graders to recognize their incredible accomplishments as they move up to Middle School. Be sure to pick these up! If your student has not picked up their Scholastic Pictures yet, we will also be distributing them at this time. Technology and Equipment Return To limit traffic and prioritize health and safety, we only ask our fifth graders or students who will not return to the Omaha Public School district in the fall to return items checked out from school. · Library Books · Music Instruments For the Health and Safety of All The distribution and return will follow a drive-through format. Please drive to the parking lot on the East side of the building and pull your car up to the back-cafeteria doors. Students and families will remain in their cars. Please understand this decision was made after careful consultation with our local Douglas County Health Department, as well as other state and local officials. Student and staff health and safety is our top priority. Continued Learning Opportunities for Students We have plans in place to ensure students can stay engaged throughout this closure. Students in Elementary School: Each elementary school has received printed packets from Curriculum and Instruction Support to provide continued learning opportunities for students. On Monday, March 16 these packets will be available for pick up between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. at their student’s school. The packets are also available on the Omaha Public Schools website. Students in Middle and High School: Students will be provided one learning activity per week by email or another digital platform for most classes. More information will be forthcoming from individual teachers. Students will be expected to complete the lessons during the closure. The lessons are designed to keep students engaged in learning but will not be graded. If your family has internet access at home but not a household computer or mobile device, please contact your school principal by Sunday, March 15. We will strive to assist. All Students Thanks to a great partnership between Omaha Public Schools and Scholastic, all families have access to online reading materials. The Learning at Home Site, provided by Scholastic, is for Pre-K through grades 9+ and is a completely free resource to be used at home. There will be approximately three hours of learning opportunities that will include projects based on exciting articles and stories, virtual field trips, reading and geography challenges and more.
